Summary

Critically acclaimed author Nina Varela delivers a stunning sequel to the richly imagined queer epic fantasy Crier’s War, which SLJ called “perfect for fans of Sarah J。 Maas’s Throne of Glass。”

For too long, Automae have lorded over the kingdom of Rabu, oppressing its human citizens。 But the human revolution has risen, and at its heart is Ayla。 Once a handmaiden, now a fugitive, Ayla narrowly escaped the palace of Lady Crier, the girl she would’ve killed if she hadn’t fallen in love first。

Now Ayla has pledged her allegiance to Queen Junn, who can help accomplish the human rebellion’s ultimate goal: destroy the Iron Heart。 Without its power, the Automae will be weakened to the point of extinction。 Ayla wants to succeed, but can’t shake the strong feelings she’s developed for Crier。 And unbeknownst to her, Crier has also fled the palace, taking up among traveling rebels, determined to find and protect Ayla。

Even as their paths collide, nothing can prepare them for the dark secret underlying the Iron Heart。

ok, first of all, I KNOW IT TOOK ME MONTHS TO FINISH THIS BOOK IM SORRYI really liked the addition of the Automae-zombies mystery, and how Kinoks supposed good plan was not what it seemed at all, and how Crier and Ayla found their way back to each other。 The buildup to going against the villain and everything--and the banter between the girls ughhI liked the new characters too and THIS IS RANDOM BUT THAT ONE PERSON WHO ASKED ALYA TO DANCE?? The journey to finding tourmaline was suspenseful and i ok, first of all, I KNOW IT TOOK ME MONTHS TO FINISH THIS BOOK IM SORRYI really liked the addition of the Automae-zombies mystery, and how Kinoks supposed good plan was not what it seemed at all, and how Crier and Ayla found their way back to each other。 The buildup to going against the villain and everything--and the banter between the girls ughhI liked the new characters too and THIS IS RANDOM BUT THAT ONE PERSON WHO ASKED ALYA TO DANCE?? The journey to finding tourmaline was suspenseful and interesting, and when they figured out how heartstone was even MADE ooooofI liked being able to see more of Ayla and Criers personalities, and their relationship development too。 I feel like if I didn't take big breaks with reading this book I would have enjoyed it more, but I still loved it。 ill always appreciate the criers war duology TTanyways, i know this review is lousy, sorry sorrygo read iron heart :D 。。。more

3,5。 Tyckte om första mer。 Gillade ploten men det kom mycket nya karaktärer som man inte riktigt fick lära känna。 Fint men ihopklämt slut。 Mkt krig。

The ending had arya killing the night king in got vibes :/ Books HAVE to stick the landing for me to like them and i felt like this was just so anticlimactic。 All the momentum the first book put in motion was wasted for screentime with unnecessary new side characters in the second book of a DUOLOGY。 Like this is NOT the time to introduce new characters who are not significant to the plot and then randomly appear at the end!! This was cute! I enjoyed this one more than the first one, though I still wish there was a little bit more between crier and Ayla。 Cute!

Such a great sequel that answered all the questions I had from the first book! I was left in complete shock all towards the end when we got said answers。 So well done, ended perfectly。

honestly one of my favorite books i've ever read。 the slow burn was fantastically done, i love the human rebels side plot, and this sequel tied the books together to a close remarkably well。 if anything i think the ending was a big rushed, but even that is me reaching。 the plot twists were absolutely perfect, and it was so nice to see queer fantasy portrayed in such a beautiful way。 i would rate this so much higher if i could。 honestly one of my favorite books i've ever read。 the slow burn was fantastically done, i love the human rebels side plot, and this sequel tied the books together to a close remarkably well。 if anything i think the ending was a big rushed, but even that is me reaching。 the plot twists were absolutely perfect, and it was so nice to see queer fantasy portrayed in such a beautiful way。 i would rate this so much higher if i could。 。。。more

SO GOOD。 4。5/5。 This book did not disappoint! Only reason it’s 4。5 instead of 5 is because I would’ve liked to see more of their relationship。

This duology ended on such a high note! The prose was just as beautiful as the one in Crier's War, I loved how the characters grew and learnt from their mistakes and I love the relationship between Ayla and Crier even more than I did in the first book。The ending felt right, which isn't something you can say about every novel。Long story short, Nina Varela is an amazing writer and I can't wait for her next (hopefully queer) book! This is a great follow up to the 1st book。 We get to see more of Zulla and learn more about alchemy, Ayla's heritage and tourmaline。 I loved reading this book and the characters in it。 This is a great follow up to the 1st book。 We get to see more of Zulla and learn more about alchemy, Ayla's heritage and tourmaline。 I loved reading this book and the characters in it。 。。。more

3。5 starsThis was a solid conclusion to the duology。 I enjoyed both Crier's and Ayla's character arcs。 Their development was believable and mostly fun to read。 I will say that I didn't like it as much as the first book as most situations were resolved fairly quickly。 While I liked many aspects of the story, I think some conflicts and especially the ending could have lasted longer to not feel so rushed。 3。5 starsThis was a solid conclusion to the duology。 I enjoyed both Crier's and Ayla's character arcs。 Their development was believable and mostly fun to read。 I will say that I didn't like it as much as the first book as most situations were resolved fairly quickly。 While I liked many aspects of the story, I think some conflicts and especially the ending could have lasted longer to not feel so rushed。 。。。more

A great conclusion to a great series。 Loved the romance, and the pacing was great too。 I wish we'd gotten to see a little more to the side characters, and the ending was good, but just not i had expected I guess。 That said, I do think this is a duology you don't want to miss out on! All I can think of to say is that I loved every second of this book, I could not put it down。 Nina Varela has such a way with words that you're constantly drawn in, her depiction of the characters and the way she approached their growth is something to admire。Reading this 2 book series was an amazing experience and I'm sure I'll return to it often。 All I can think of to say is that I loved every second of this book, I could not put it down。 Nina Varela has such a way with words that you're constantly drawn in, her depiction of the characters and the way she approached their growth is something to admire。Reading this 2 book series was an amazing experience and I'm sure I'll return to it often。 。。。more

We love the wlw representation of this series! The two main characters are so great and it was fun following along with them, I am kind of sad I finished this lol。 So much wonderfully queer representation in the whole book, and solid world-building as usual。 Would love to hear more about Queen Junn / see her explored more, something extremely interesting about her is revealed in the back half of this that I was very curious to learn more about。 She also just seems to be a very liberated characte We love the wlw representation of this series!
